Elizabeth Jane Ferandin

1935 - 2023

Elizabeth Jane Tyson Ferandin passed away on August 29, 2023, her 64th wedding anniversary, at her home surrounded by family.

Bette-Jane was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada, in May of 1935. Her family moved to Palo Alto, when she was 17 and she finished her senior year at Paly High. Bette-Jane loved California but chose to keep her Canadian citizenship.

She met her future husband John Ferandin, when he crashed a party that she attended in 1957 and then they married in 1959. They had 3 children and Bette-Jane became a stay-at-home mother (the best ever).

In 1977 Bette-Jane returned to work and became the executive assistant to the director of SLAC. She and John put all three children through college, and we like to say "mom has 4 degrees" having worked supporting us all through university. She worked at Stanford for more than 25 years and retired at the age of 70.

Bette-Jane is survived by her beloved husband John, daughters Catherine and Beth and son John (Sue). Granddaughters Claire (Nick), Lauren and Cate, grandson Jack and great grandson Dean. She also leaves behind her loving sister, Barbara and wonderful nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Nov. 11th at 1:30pm at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 670 E Meadow Dr, Palo Alto.
