Jack Herbert Lillard

JACK HERBERT LILLARD

June 5, 1935 - November 7, 1962 - Age: 27

Residence:  Palo Alto, California

Jack Herbert Lillard was born June 5th, 1935 in Gilroy,  California. He died on November 7, 1962  at the age of 27 in Palo Alto, CA of a very rare kidney disease. His father's family initially settled in Gilroy in the 1850s.  He grew up in Gilroy and attended Stanford University where he received his BA and later a Masters Degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Physics/Chemistry.  He met his wife, Elizabeth (Liz) while both were attending Stanford. 

A beloved Paly teacher, he taught Math, (Algebra and Geometry) Science, and coached baseball, tennis, and basketball. 

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Liz) Lillard who also became a teacher in Palo Alto; two daughters, Karen, age 3 and Kendra, age 18 months at the time of his death.  Both Karen and Kendra are Paly graduates. 

He loved family, travel, sports and his German Shepherd, Heidi.

The 1962 Madrono was dedicated in memory of Jack Lillard.

Terri J. Galan (Goldberg) (1960)

Mr. Lillard was my geometry teacher. I hadn't done well in Algebra at Jordan and was deading another math class. Howver, Mr. Lillard's teaching style and supportive manner gave me confidence. Mr. Lillard is a teacher I still remember with great fondness. Terri Galan (class of 1960)
