Antoinette "Toni" Sousa
July 14, 1949 - September 3, 2024
Antoinette "Toni" Sousa passed away on September 3, 2024 after a long illness. She is survived by her brother, Hank, and sister-in-law Andie Reed.
Toni was born on July 14, 1949 (Bastille Day) in San Luis Obispo. In 1953 her parents Tom and Jane Sousa asked Mr. Eichler to build them a home in the Crescent Park area of Palo Alto. Toni attended Crescent Park Elementary School where she met life long friends Chris Putz and Cary Orr. They were all Girl Scouts together and these two friends would help Toni navigate Jordan Jr. High and Paly.
After graduation in 1967 Toni attended Lincoln Jr. College in Illinois. She then returned to Palo Alto and worked as a unit clerk at Stanford Hospital for many years. Toni lived in Morgan Hill and then Carmel. She became active in the Pac Rep theatre company and also led wild flower walks at Henry Coe State Park. She often carried a camera on these walks and took lovely photographs. She hiked in and out of the Grand Canyon. Also, one summer she drove to Denali in Alaska and worked there as a volunteer. She took pride in the fact that her great grandfather was the late composer and bandleader John Philip Sousa. She made several trips to speak about him during the opening of new public buildings or schools that were named after JPS.
At Brookdale she joined the choir and enjoyed chats with other residents.
No memorial service is planned.
