James “Jim” Daniel Smith

James “Jim” Daniel Smith, 85, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, in Santa Clara, California.

Born on September 18, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, Jim grew up in Palo Alto, spending all his school years there. He married the love of his life, Kathy, beginning a beautiful 64-year marriage filled with love, laughter, and wonderful memories. In 1965, they purchased their home in Sunnyvale, where they raised their family and built a lifetime of cherished memories.

Jim worked as a dedicated and skilled machinist at Hewlett-Packard/Agilent from 1958 until his retirement in 1997.

Jim was predeceased by his beloved son, Dan Smith. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen; daughter, Deneen; son, Mike, and his wife, Chris; grandson, Kevin; and granddaughter, Jenelle (married to Cory Bardwell) and great-grandson, Bentley.

Jim’s life was one of love, humor, and adventure–a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
