Virginia Beach - Alma Ruth Beisel, 80, a well known puppeteer passed away peacefully on February 23, 2017 in Virginia Beach. Alma born in San Diego CA in 1936, was the daughter of Ruth & Brig. Gen. Walfried H. Fromhold of Palo Alto, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cmdr. Gerald W. Beisel, USN, retired; her parents and a brother, Michael Fromhold of Palo Alto, CA.
In addition to being the wife of a Naval Aviator, Alma was a successful businesswoman. She started her company, Wappadoodle Puppets in 1978 and was a member of The Puppeteers of America. Over the course of a 35 year career, Alma performed through-out the United States. She performed over 1,500 shows for audiences at schools, libraries, children's hospitals and to the delight of so many children including her own grandchildren, at birthday parties. Alma dedicated her life to her love for all children and expressed her love through her puppets. Alma loved to travel and made trips to her very favorite destination Honolulu, Hawaii over 25 times with her husband Gerry, her mother Ruth, and other friends.
Alma, a resident of Westminster-Canterbury on the Bay was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She is survived by a son, Cory R. Beisel of Virginia Beach and his wife Sherry, granddaughters Alexandra and Gabrielle and she is survived by a daughter, Crista Tuerk of Dover, MA and grandchildren Nicholas and Taylor.
Friends and Alma's puppet fans are invited to a celebration of her life to be held at Chick's Oyster Bar, 2143 Vista Circle, Virginia Beach, VA 23451 on Monday, February 27 from 2PM 4PM. Burial will be alongside her husband at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, or Achievable Dream Academies.
