Richard Darrow Maxwell - Class Of 1953

RICHARD DARROW MAXWELL

October 9, 1935 - January 4, 2023

Residing: San Jose, California

Dick  was  born in  Palo Alto on October  9th 1935, and growing up spent much of his time there with his grand-parents because his parents divorced and his mother moved around a lot. He was very happy living with his grand-parents, and especially enjoyed hearing his grandfather’s stories, who rode a motorcycle for the Palo Alto Police Department. At Paly  Dick was active in our Spanish Club and enjoyed playing on our baseball team.

After he graduated from Paly Dick served in the Navy  for  four  years  and  then  joined  an apprenticeship program for the electrical trades, and also finished a two-year program at San Jose City College.

In 1962 he married Joan Verbridge and they had two sons, who later gave them three grandsons and a granddaughter.

He  was a union electrician for 40 years, and also a union official.

When he retired he enjoyed playing golf with his sons, as remembered grandsons and friends, and traveling with Joan to visit their children and grandchildren.

Several years ago he became chronically ill and moved into a senior living facility in San Jose. There he survived bypass surgery and COPD until he died at 87.
