Shedo A. "Nick" Russo - Class Of 1955

Shedo A. "Nick" Russo, Jr.
November 25, 1936 ~ March 7, 2017
Monterey and Watsonville

A true Monterey original, Shedo A. Russo passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at his home in Watsonville.
Born November 25, 1936 in Monterey to Shedo and Rose Russo. At the age of 3 he contracted polio. His paralysis during recovery led to the development of a vivid imagination. No one could embellish a story or event better than he.

Being the son of a Sicilian fisherman, he spent much of his youth at the wharf on a boat or fishing with his uncles. This led to  his lifelong love of the sea.

In 1952 the family moved to Palo Alto where he met the love of his life, Patty. They married in 1959, spent 57 years together, and raised two beautiful daughters. Family vacations were spent camping and fishing in Big Sur. This family tradition was continued with his grandchildren. There Shedo created amazing scavenger hunts for them.

Shedo had a varied work career beginning with sales and development when the plastic industry was in its infancy. Later he and Patty owned a print shop in Santa Cruz. He ended his career working for West Marine.

Having grown up in the 50's, he truly was a "car guy". It started with a '40 Ford coupe, moved to a 1600 Porsche Speedster, and ended with his final dream car, a Toyota MR2 Spyder. For him there was nothing better than driving the back roads with the top down and the wind in his hair.

Shedo will be dearly missed by his wife, Patty, daughters Shelley Russo-Huxtable and Amy Russo, his grandchildren Sarah Russo-Huxtable and Jack Russo-Huxtable, and his sister, Rosalind Russo.
