Douglas A. Kelley - Class Of 1972

            Douglas Allen Kelley

                          September 6, 1954 - August 9, 2018
                                                                        Resident of San Jose

If you had the good fortune to meet "Kelley" you had an instant friend, one who would make you smile and laugh and feel included. It is with heavy heart that those of us who love him say goodbye.

Kelley was born in San Francisco and raised in Palo Alto. He was the son of Robert Kelley and Genelle (Virnig) Simoni. Kelley graduated from Palo Alto High School and attended Evergreen Valley College and San Jose State University. He married Linda Elvin December 31, 1983. For most of his career Kelley worked for San Jose State University Athletic Department where he strove to make life easier for coaches, administrators, staff, and athletes all while keeping everyone entertained. He retired from the University in 2014.

Kelley was a member of the San Jose Elks Lodge #522. He enjoyed travel both internationally, visiting Mexico, Canada, France, Greece, Italy and Turkey, and domestically making a trip across the US in his RV in 2014. He relished all-you-can-eat crab feeds, showing off his culinary skills, gardening and reading the newspaper, the old fashioned paper kind. He loved sharing the produce from his garden and surrounding himself with the dearest friends imaginable. Kelley loved Calistoga in the winter and Kamp in the summer, but Kelley's biggest joy was his granddaughter, Meela Wren Kelley, born September, 2017.

If you want to celebrate Kelley's life, make someone smile, pamper yourself, read a book, take a trip, nurture a plant, buy a friend a drink, or have a toke. He will be with you in spirit when you do.

Kelley is survived by his wife, Linda Elvin; children, Brett Kelley and Kyla Kelley (Ben Grisley); granddaughter Meela Kelley; his siblings Robert Kelley (Ev Shiro), Mimi Seeley, Mark Kelley (Ann Butterworth) and Bunny Kelley; and his nieces and nephews Todd Seeley (Kenda), Sarah Seeley Woodland (Greg), Ethan Kelley and Adrienne Kelley. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Daniel Kelley.

"I probably won't see you tonight," he said. "Not unless you can't sleep," she replied.
