James Allen Schroder - Class Of 1965

Former Sunnyvale resident James Allen Schroder, 66, died Sept. 29, 2013, in Reno, Nev.

Mr. Schroder was born Sept. 16, 1947, in Palo Alto, Calif., to Royal G. and Mildred M. (nee Mills) Schroder. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas for primary school, and Palo Alto High School graduating in 1965.

James proudly served in the United States Marine Corps receiving a Presidential Unit Citation for the battle of Khe Sahn in Vietnam. He married Cheryl Perkins on July 17, 1971, in Weston, Conn. James and Cheryl moved back to the Bay Area in 1972.They had two children: a son, Brandon James and a daughter, Kira Marie.

James was employed by HP for 25 years, then Hyatt Die Cast for 15 years. He coached Little League, basketball and soccer for both of his children. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. Jim especially enjoyed the annual family summer excursions to Mexico, Canada, and the majority of the United States to pursue his passion of fishing. He loved the open road and appreciated the quality family time: these are among the family's fondest memories.

He had lived in Sunnyvale for 36 years when he and his wife retired to Reno in 2011. He loved waking up to the view of Mt. Rose and the more relaxed pace of life.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl, daughter, Kira Schroder and future son-in-law,  Steven House of San Jose, Calif.; son, Brandon (Carolyn)  of Genoa, Nev.; grandchildren, Caitlyn, Scott, Carly, and Cathryn of Genoa; sister, Cathy Winn, of Sun City, Ariz.; his aunt Hazelle Mills of Redding, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Michael Norman (1965)

James was a great friend and classmate starting at St. Thomas Aquinas in grade school and then Jordan Jr. High School and finally at Palo Alto High School.  Spent many of our early years playing baseball and just hanging out, riding our bikes all through the Stanford hills!!  Like most of us, lost contact after high school but his memories remain...
