School Story

Interesting question... I attended the middle school near Cubberly, then known as "Wilbur". As such I didn't know any of the Jordan kids when I started at Paly (my 'district' near El Dorado on Bryant seemed close to the school boundary). I was always a bit socially awkward, so it took me time to make friends anyway.

I took science classes during the summer after my freshman year to get into AP science. I enjoyed science and math and sports. I didn't 'go out' for gymnastics until my junior year and as I recall wrestling for my senior year. I also played JV basketball, and really enjoyed most sports (softball, football, tennis, handball, water sports, etc.).

Three favorite memories: 1. Taking some iso valeric acid ("stench") from Mr. Bunton's chem class and stinking up the school with it. 2. Science/electronics with Mr. Martin and getting into the HP program for promising high school seniors. 3. Gymnastics (I still love handstands) practice.

In high school I had no clue about colleges and only applied to UC Davis that seemed reasonable to me. I got in and really (!) enjoyed college at UCD, only later learning that I likely would have even more enjoyed CalTech or Yale (where one of our daughters attended) or ... Oh well. Live and learn is the thing, right?

Incidentally, I sincerely apologize for all the clueless things I did in high school, and I forgive everybody else for the same.
