                                         April 21, 1947 - May 12, 2023

Richard "Rick" C. Floyd passed peacefully at home in Newport on May 12, 2023 with his family by his side after a year-long battle with metastatic lung cancer.

Rick was born in Palo Alto, California, and was
a 1965 graduate of Palo Alto High School. Rick fell in love with Maine while stationed at the Cutler Naval Base from 1968-69. He was a Vietnam War veteran who served two tours of duty with the Navy Seabees. After being honorably discharged, he made his home in Maine with his wife and two daughters. After returning from the Navy, Rick attended San Jose State College and graduated with a degree in.......

Rick was known to many as Mr. Floyd, the Industrial Arts teacher at Central High School in East Corinth. He taught at Central for over 20 years from the late 1970s to 2000 and was proud to have taught useful skills to multiple generations of students.
After retiring from teaching, Rick became a passionate expert of antique woodworking tools and was widely known for his vast knowledge. Rick also loved spending time on Moosehead Lake. Nothing put a bigger smile on his face than a fire by the lake, grilling dinner and roasting marshmallows with his family. He loved a quiet life, and built his own home in Newport, Maine.  That wasn't remote enough for Rick, so he bought a small island on Spinney Lake in Maine for those "weekend getaways".
Above all, Rick was most proud of being a dad to his two daughters. He is survived by his daughters, Amanda (Scott) Hilton of Wilton, and Morgan (Tim) Hynd of Warren, as well as seven step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, William "Bill"  B. Floyd (Paly '61), (Pam); a niece, Karen (Matt) McLeod; and nephew, Daniel Floyd along with two great-nephews and a great-niece.

Rick was predeceased by his wife, Sandra Floyd; his sister-in-law, Connie Floyd; and his parents, Benjamin and Ruth (nee Lyon) Floyd.
Per Rick's wishes, no funeral will be held. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Bangor Humane Society.
