It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Cedric (Ric) Terry Brady five weeks following a diagnosis of a glioblastoma.

Ric was born September 9, 1942 in Palo Alto to Mamie DuBose Brady and Clemer (Clem) Cedric Brady. He liked to humorously refer to himself as "the first war baby" figuring he was conceived on the day the war broke out. Ric's mother, Mamie was well known in the PAUSD as both a teacher at David Starr Jordan Jr. High School and later as a counselor at Gunn High School.

Ric graduated from Paly in '66, and went on to attain a Bachelors degree from Yale University in 1965 having taken off a year to live with his family in Tokyo, Japan where his mother, Mamie was awarded a unique teaching opportunity. He received his Masters from Cal Berkeley, School of Public Health specializing in Hospital Management. He served five years in the USAF as a KC135 Navigator spending part of that time in Viet Nam. Ric met his wife of almost 56 years, Susan and married in December of 1966.

Following time in the Air Force, Ric spent many years as a medical group practice administrator originally at Viginia Mason Medical Clinic in Seattle and then moved onto "Pill Hill" in Oakland as a hospital administrator. Eventually, he formed his own niche business, Brady and Associates which specialized in brokering oral surgery practices.

Ric was a family man and especially enjoyed doing things with his family and was BIG on times with his grandchildren. Annual all-family vacations often found them in Palm Springs. Ever affable, Ric was a people person and developed many life- long relationships starting at Jordan and continuing through his years at Yale. As an avid tennis player, he played the top singles position at Paly with the "Paly Netters" enjoying undefeated records in the SPAL. His long-time relationships continued to evolve with Paly's X-Country and Track teams under the mentorship of famed Coach, Forest Jamieson.  A distance runner, Ric ran in the 440, 880, 1/2 mile and mile.  He maintained lifelong friendships with teammates from Paly along with some of the top X-Country and Track competitors from Los Altos High School. Although Ric secured an athletic scholarship to Yale where he continued to collect life-time friends, he finished off the 1960 Paly season with a broken ankle suffered during competition.

Ric developed a love for recreational skiing  enjoying 30 years of destination ski-trips with his best friend from 7th grade, Jordan and Paly classmate, John Kiraly. As Double-Black-Diamond skiers, they covered the slopes together including 20 annual trips to Aspen, CO.  Ric was an avid sports fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Giants and the Tours de France.

Ric is surived by his wife Susan of almost 56 years; son, Steven (Katie); daughter, Janice Metzger (Keith); and four grandchildren, Ashley and Casey Metzger; Declan and Ellison Brady who were the lights of his life. He is also survived by his younger sister, Jean, Paly '62 (Norm Young).

A celebration of Ric's life will take place at the Piedmont Community Church on November 11th at 1pm.
