Llewellyn (Lynn) Young Leigh

Llewellyn (Lynn) Young Leigh, 81, passed away peacefully at home Monday, December 17, 2018. His death marks the end of nearly 4 years battling the results of a stroke. His kindness and unending gratitude for all the help given him during this time is a testimony of his strong and gentle character. He will be missed by many family members and friends who love him dearly and have been comforted and encouraged by him through the years.

Lynn was born on January 2, 1937 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Llewellyn and Margaret Young Leigh. He grew up in Palo Alto, California and was a 1954 graduate of Palo Alto High School. He played football and baseball, enjoyed the ocean and was a champion springboard diver.

Lynn served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil and also served in the United States Army. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a Master’s degree in physical education. He taught at Church College of New Zealand and Church College of Hawaii. He continued with post graduate studies in Massachusetts and Utah and retired as a Recreation Therapist from the Utah State Hospital.

Family, friends, even strangers have experienced his kindness and service. He shoveled snow, irrigated, took people to theater productions, was the perpetual volunteer for scouting trips, river runs and pioneer treks, was an impromptu ski and swim instructor for anyone in need, attended concerts, races and competitions and sponsored talent development when he could. He loved people, sports, the outdoors and animals of all kinds and sizes. He was faithful to his beliefs and served in many church callings.

Lynn is survived by his wife, Roberta Angel Leigh and his children: Rebecca (Daryl) Smith, Ruth (Brent) Morrill, Llewellyn David Leigh, Matthew (Jennifer) Leigh and Jennifer Leigh. Grandchildren: Heidi Morrill, Tucker Smith, Meagen Arreola, Statler Smith, Christian Leigh, Joshua Morrill, Brinley Morrill, Samuel Smith, Zachary Leigh, and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held Friday, December 21st, at the Kolob 7th Ward, 840 South 400 East, Springville, Utah. Interment was in Springville Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, find someone in need and do something nice for them in celebration of Lynn’s life. The family thanks the doctors, nurses, aids and homecare professionals who have helped us through the years.
